SOLO DECLARATION FOR SAFEGUARDING AND PROTECTING HERITAGE

WHC conference in 2008 or the second day of the last session held Tuesday 28 October 2008 at Sunan Hotel.Conference produce a final declaration read by the Mayor of Surakarta, Ir. Joko Widodo, and signed by representatives of the city Member Euro-Asian World Heritage Cities in 2008.
In the declaration the participants recognized some things, namely the cultural diversity and multi-cultural understanding, which is the basis for creating a harmonious world and will provide a significant contribution to reducing tensions and resolving conflicts in the world. In addition to the totality of human values, creative mind and the works, is also a cultural power base to form the future must be developed. Culture should be, because of the cultural heritage can provide inspiration and motivation is also the economic potential for further development of culture.
The development of the city that is increasingly complex should still consider the balance with the permanent conserving, caring and utilize the cultural heritage as an asset, although exactly have the values of physical, economic, social and cultural significance.
From the statement, the participants and expressed support for calls and 9 case, namely:

1. The importance of balancing the physical, economic, social, cultural and sustainable development, by utilizing the experience and lessons of the past, and the dynamics of a growing challenge to answer the present and future;

2. The need to safeguard and protect cultural properties and develop the cultural life of harmony, forming a typical image of the city, and encourage a vibrant cultural life in various societies. Policy clear strategy, and implementation of the program should be developed in each city;

3. The need to utilize the wisdom and lessons learned from that heritage to improve the quality of life and welfare of the people, and to strengthen the basic creative and sustainable development;

4. The importance of improving cooperation between cities so that the consolidation efforts in maintaining and developing the cities heritage productive and dynamic, based on the understanding between people, between cities and between countries;

5. The need to develop sustainable tourism that will provide economic benefits, increase inter-cultural understanding, strengthen the values of tolerance, freedom and democracy, and also as a powerful media education to learn about the environment and heritage;

6. The desire to improve public understanding and appreciation of history and culture in education through formal and non-formal, in the mass media and in various activities in daily life and the need to encourage and facilitate community initiatives in various heritage conservation movement;

7. The importance of efforts at local, national, regional and international protect, preserve and revitalize the culture and traditional knowledge. For it is very urgent to accelerate the establishment of an international instrument that has been discussed under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and leveraging the power of social culture, to support these efforts and prevent the abuse of cultural assets.

8. The award for the efforts of UNESCO in the establishment of the Representative List of Cultural Heritage and Human Items Items not currently have urgent. Along with that, considering the value attached to the gamelan and batik, and the cultural heritage objects countries, efforts are needed to accelerate the process of recording the heritage of the it into the list;

9. The urgency to formulate and develop technical cooperation program, database, information, communication, and education and readiness of disaster response and management of the impact of the disaster.

OPERA CINA SEDOT PENGUNJUNG EXPO

Penampilan ke 2 Opera Cina dari Chinese Opera Institue (COI) dari Saingapura, Senin (27/10) malam, menyedot pengunjung Expo WHCCE 2008 yang digelar di Pura Mangkunegaran. Mengambil judul Ramayana, penampilan mereka mampu menyapu perhatian seribuan penonton. Untuk sementara waktu, terutama 10 menit pertama, acara melihat-lihat stan Expo ditepiskan dahulu. Para pengunjung lebih memilih untuk menunggu bagaimana duta kesenian Negeri Macan Putih itu tampil. Walaupun sebagian besar pengunjung tak mengerti dialek yang diucapkan para pemeran, namun keingintahuan mereka tetap tinggi. Minimal, kostum yang dikenakan sangat mengundang untuk tidak melewatkan pertunjukan malam itu.“Memang selalu begitu. Pasti penuh sekali. Apalagi tempatnya yang terbatas, seribuan pengunjung saja sudah demikian padat. Paling tidak, Opera Cina ini ikut mewarnai agenda Expo WHCCE 2008,” ungkap Manager Expo, Slamet Raharjo di meja Sekretariat.Seperti juga kisah Rama dan Shinta di pewayangan Jawa, apa yang disuguhkan COI malam itu juga sama. Bagaimana Dewi Shinta yang diculik Rahwana dan berusaha direbut kembali Prabu Rama karena dorongan kasihnya kepada puteri nan cantik itu. Di mata penonton, kostum, dandanan serta musik yang sesekali terdengar mirip gamelan Wayang Potehi, lebih familiar. Dibandingkan harus mengikuti dialek karena yang digunakan tentunya adalah Bahasa Cina. Hal yang mungkin juga menarik, masyarakat jadi tahu meskipun hanya sedikit, tentang konsepsi pertunjukan opera.”Selama ini yang kita tahu ya kethoprak, drama atau sinetron. Kalau opera, katanya khan harus di tempat khusus dan hanya orang-orang tertentu saja yang mampu menikmati. Tapi dengan hadirnya Opera Cina ini di arena Expo Pura Mangkunegaran, masyarakat awam jadi mengerti apa yang dinamakan opera. Bagi kami, masalah ketidaktahuan mereka bukan soal. Tetapi sisi edukasi terhadap nilai-nilai seni, itulah yang penting. Sehingga ketika mereka datang lagi ke Expo tidak sekadar melihat apa yang kita pajang namun juga memperoleh wawasan,” imbuh Slamet Raharjo

ANTUSIASME WARGA SOLO

27 Oktober 2008 : 17.00 WIB. Ratusan ribu warga Solo yang menyaksikan acara Kirab WHCCE 2008 menjadi pembicaraan hangat para delegasi dan tamu VIP. Mereka tak menyangka jika sepanjang rute kirab berjarak kurang lebih 3 KM dari Balaikota hingga Gendengan di jalan utama Kota Bengawan, yakni Jl Slamet Riyadi, begitu penuh. Taksiran Walikota Solo di angka 300.000 lebih penonton pun dinilai sangat faktual.“Sungguh luar biasa! Itu karnaval yang sangat besar!” ucap Rassikh Sagitov, Sekretaris Jenderal (Sekjen) United Cities & Local Governments (UCLG) Regional Euro-Asia, singkat di meja Photo Service Media Center WHCCE 2008, Senin (27/10).Hal yang sama juga dikemukakan hampir semua delegasi, tamu dan peserta. Mereka manyatakan bahwa apa yang telah mereka saksikan merupakan buah cerita yang manis saat kembali ke kota asalnya masing-masing.Alhasil, dokumentasi foto acara Kirab WHCCE 2008 yang digelar sehari sebelumnya yakni Minggu (26/10) menjadi permintaan tertinggi di Photo Service Media Center“Hari ini kami menerima pesanan puluhan tamu. Kebanyakan dari tamu-tamu asing,” ungkap Andry Prasetyo, Koordinator Photo Service Media Center yang bertempat di area lobi Hotel The Sunan.
